The Kameyama Plant Environmentally Conscious
Environmental Education

Sharp has set a goal to increase environmental awareness among individual employees and is working proactively to ensure their participation in activities related to protecting the environment. Sharp promotes environmental education through a series of courses at three different levels
--Master, Expert, and General.

Master

The Master course is designed to foster the leaders needed for future environmental sustainability management.

This course targets environmental planning managers at each business site. Participants work to acquire comprehensive knowledge in technology, products, and production.

In fiscal 2006, in order to foster leaders who have expertise and know-how in specific environmental fields, Sharp added a specialist class to the Master course. The specialist class deals with themes like environment-friendly facilities, waste disposal, reduction of CO2 emissions, and management of chemical substances. The programs consist of lectures provided by in-house and outside lecturers, facility tours, and group discussions where participants work to share knowledge and build their network of contacts.



Expert

The Expert course provides training with the goal of understanding environmental laws and regulations, and of gaining specialized expertise related to various operational activities.

As part of its efforts to strengthen adherence to environmental laws, Sharp has been conducting training in environmental legislative control since fiscal 2005 to update employees on the latest trends in legislation in Japan and overseas.


Design-for-Recycling Training
In fiscal 2004, Sharp instituted a design-for-recycling training program at Kansai Recycling Systems Co., Ltd., a home appliance recycling facility in which Sharp invested . Participants attend seminars on recycling laws and are informed about the problems involved in recycling design. They then learn the importance of recycling design by observing dismantling operations for scrapped home appliances and by actually disassembling an LCD TV. Participants also make suggestions for improvements in product design based on feedback from managers at the recycling plant.

S-EMS Auditor Training
The Sharp Environmental Management System (S-EMS), requires auditors to gain a higher level of auditing skills than that demanded of internal auditors for ISO 14001 alone. For this reason, the Environmental Protection Group established the S-EMS auditor certification system, offering S-EMS training seminars for auditors.


General

This course is intended to help employees master basic knowledge about the environment and improve environmental awareness.
