Mie Plant Supports Regeneration of Idle Farmland Through Environmental Education(Japan)

Cutting thorns of Citrus junos

Harvesting fruits of Citrus junos

On November 22, 2013, Sharp's Mie Plant (Taki Town, Mie Prefecture) held a hands-on learning session as part of its environmental education with the participation of students from Seiwa Junior High School. In this activity, the students cut thorns of Citrus junos and harvested the fruits in a local field.

In Taki Town, the agricultural union of Genjo village and others have been engaged in regenerating idle farmlands which are increasing steadily, by growing Citrus junos.

Numerous thorns of Citrus junos hurt the fruits and degrade their commercial value if they are left untended. Therefore, the Mie Plant and the agricultural union of Genjo village together started the leaning session last year where participants from Seiwa Junior High School help cut thorns and harvest fruits.

Those students kindly commented that they had a good experience of mingling with the local people and contributing to the local community through the session.
