SEM Plants Mangrove Trees in Kuala Selangor Nature Park (Malaysia)

SEM contributed 53 employees to the activity

Planting 110 mangrove trees

On February 22, 2014, Sharp Electronics (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (SEM), a Sharp product design and sales base in Selangor, Malaysia, held an activity of planting mangrove trees in Kuala Selangor Nature Park. The park is one of the largest mangrove forests in Malaysia and made up of about 3.2 square km (about 70 times as large as Tokyo Dome). The mangrove forest plays an important role in protecting the shoreline from erosion. It is a part of the ecosystem where fish and crustaceans lay eggs and grow them, and houses a variety of creatures such as otters, leopard cats, silvered leaf monkeys, and others including 150 species of birds.

The participants of 53 SEM employees toured the forest and planted 110 mangrove trees with a wish that "the ecosystem in Malaysia continues abundant forever." They not only learnt the role of the mangrove forest but also enjoyed coming in contact with the nature and collaboration with the companions. SEM also expects such an experience of being thankful to the blessings of nature and serving to them in return open the eyes of the employees to a new thing and promote their future environmental protection activities.
