Mie Plant Holds a Water Creature Observation Tour in the Sana River (Japan)

Participants look for creatures in the river

Children confirm the water quality by checking the kinds and number of captured creatures

On August 2, 2014, the Association of Cleanup the Sana River, whose secretariat is run by the Mie Plant of Sharp Corporation, and the Mie River and National Highway Office of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation Ministry held a water creature observation tour for local primary school children. The event has been held annually during the summer vacation since 2009 for children to become familiar with the local river.

This year, the event gathered 27 parents and children. They received a lecture from a staff member of a consultant company ĀEĀEivil Engineering & Eco-Technology ConsultantsĀEČon how they could confirm river water quality based on the number and kinds of caught small fish and insects, and the points to note when enjoying river activities. This occasion served as a good opportunity for the participants to become more interested in the river. Some participants mentioned that the occasion provided them with useful subjects for their independent research during the summer vacation. They released those captured creatures into the river after the tour, for protection of the natural environment in the Sana River.
