Green Curtain Grows Wide and Tall at the Mie Plant(Japan)

A green curtain grows to screen the afternoon sun

A look of the green curtain from the office inside

Sharp's Mie Plant has been cultivating green curtains as part of the efforts to save energy during summer. This year marks its fourth year of the effort and it planted a wall of goya (bitter melon) covering some 23m width of the wall of the 2nd plant to the west, as a measure to shield sever sunlight from the west during day time. It grew up to about 7m high. The green curtain receives favorable comment from the employees working in the office as it provides them with a cooler atmosphere. Harvested goya is served in the company cafeteria.
