On September 15, Sharp's Mie Plant participated in the "Matsusaka Environmental Fair"*1 held in the Matsusaka Agriculture Park Bellfarm (in Matsusaka city). This environmental fair organized by the "Matsusaka City Environment Partnership Meeting"*2 marked its 6th year this year. The Mie Plant has been involved in its planning and operation as one of the members of the meeting's environmental fair project.

This year, 17 groups including NPOs active mainly in the city of Matsusaka, citizen's activity groups, and local companies participated. On a fine clear autumn day, the venue was filled with about 4,000 visitors.

The Mie Plant exhibited panels introducing its environmental preservation and regional contribution activities, and held an event where participants were able to fill a plastic bag with toilet roles made of recycled copier paper used in the plant. The event gathered a lot of people and those prepared 900 toilet roles went sold out in only about 40 minutes. Sharp plans to donate all sales proceeds from the occasion to "Kusunoki Sagyosyo (Workshop of camphor tree)," a workshop facility for handicapped people in Taki Town, via the Taki Town Social Welfare Council.

  • *1 The event is part of the "Kurukuru Environmental Festa" (held on September 14 and 15) sponsored by Matsusaka Labor Cooperation Farm Co., Ltd which runs the Bellfarm.
  • *2 The activity organization established with the purpose of practicing environment-friendly actions, in cooperation with citizens of the city of Matsusaka, citizens' organizations, business persons, educational institutions, and the local municipality so that they can exercise their fields of expertise.
