Fifty People Participate in Kagawa Sharp Forest Event

Sharp Green Club (SGC)* has established the Kagawa Sharp Forest in Shionoe-cho,
near Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, where the Sharp Takamatsu Building is located.
This is the seventh such site in Japan (and the first by a sales/service base),
and SGC held a tree-planting event on April 21, 2007.
The Kagawa Sharp Forest is the first effort in a program in which Kagawa Prefecture
and companies work together to develop forested areas. This project will create
a forest recharging the water source by planting trees
each year on 0.1 hectare of previously logged land in Tenma-ga-Hara
. The area is located upstream of the Naiba Dam, a valuable source of water for
the prefecture. Some 50 people participated in the event, including Sharp employees
and their families, members of the forestry cooperative association, and employees
of the prefectural government. Some 300 hinoki (Japanese cypress) seedlings were
planted.
The Sharp Takamatsu Building has been actively promoting environmental volunteer
activities, including cleanup activities around the building and
the Sanuki Seto Clean Relay , aimed at beaches in the prefecture.
In addition to activities in the Kagawa Sharp
Forest, Sharp will continue its efforts to foster environmental
awareness among employees.
