In May 2007, Two of Sharp's manufacturing companies
in China-Shanghai Sharp Mold and Manufacturing Systems Co., Ltd.
(SSMC) and Shanghai Sharp Electronics Co., Ltd. (SSEC)-have been
certified as Green Factories by the Environmental Protection Administration
of Pu Dong district.
Under the certification system, the local Environmental Protection
Administration awards Green Factory status to plants in each region
that have adopted outstanding environmental measures.
In the Pu Dong district of Shanghai where SSMC and SSEC are located,
a total of 711 companies applied for certification in fiscal 2006,
but only six of them, including SSMC and SSEC, passed rigorous screenings.
In particular, SSMC and SSEC were recognized their effective measures
to reduce waste, promote the recycling of resources, and save energy
through more efficient operation of cooling and heating systems
