On July 3, Sharp welcomed a group of 25 American
education-related delegation at its Tenri No.1 Plant (Tenri City,
Nara Pref.), where they took an environmental lesson conducted by
Sharp at elementary schools in Japan.
The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industries of New York (SEC¦,
Sharp's sales company in the U.S., being its member) has a program
of dispatching an American education-related delegation to Japan under
the sponsorship of a business federation. At the request of the chamber,
an executive of which read a newspaper article on Sharp's environmental
education activities, Sharp demonstrated the environmental lesson
for the delegation members invited according to this program.
A Sharp's lecturer introduced them about the environmental problems
and new energy (photovoltaic generation) with the actual solar cells
and demonstration of their experiments in a normal way of the lessons
at elementary schools.
The participants appreciated the lesson with comments saying, "In
the States, "environmental education" has been starting
as an extra lesson at schools, but it's quite great that a school
and company cooperate in the environmental education and that it is
incorporated into the curriculum of the actual lessons in Japan,"
"We would also like to study how to implement such education
in the States."
