The US Environmental Protection Agency Recognizes Sharp's Environmental Leadership for the Second Consecutive Year

Sharp Electronics Corporation (SEC) was awarded the SmartWay Excellence Award for its involvement and outstanding contributions to the SmartWay Transportation Partnership. Sharp was recognized, along with 34 other organizations, from among more than 600 members of the SmartWay Transportation Partnership. This is the second consecutive year Sharp has won the Award and Sharp was the only shipper to win this twice. An awarding ceremony was held during the annual conference of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals in Philadelphia, PA, on October 21st - 24th.

Sharp was one of the first members of the SmartWay Transport Partnership. Created by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2004, the voluntary partnership aims to increase fuel efficiency and reduce greenhouse-gas emissions coming from the freight industry and it targets truck carriers, shippers, logistics companies and affiliates. The SmartWay Award recognizes Sharp's commitment to environmental friendly practices and business operations and Sharp's involvement in the partnership demonstrates the company's corporate social responsibility.

Mark Servidio, who is a member of Sharp's Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, is working with the EPA to spread the word for SmartWay by giving presentations on Sharp's environmental achievements and SmartWay experience during industry events and professional conferences, both nationally and internationally.
