Sharp Invited by the United Nations Environment Programme

Sharp European Headquarters (SEEG: Sharp Electronics (Europe) GmbH) was invited by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to present its EU Eco-label success story at a workshop on eco-labelling in Beijing June 11 and 12, 2008.

The workshop was part of the "International Sustainable Consumption Conference" that was sponsored by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People's Republic of China (MEP), Ministry of Finance of the Peoples' Republic of China (MOF), the UNEP and the European Commission. The workshop is a key event of a project that aims to motivate companies in developing countries to seize eco-label opportunities

Sharp explained to the audience why the EU Eco-label was chosen to promote its environmentally advanced products, its marketing approach and how to overcome barriers. Sharp is the first company world-wide to have obtained the EU Eco-label for TVs. Since 2005 Sharp has been awarded the Eco-label for more than 40 TVs. These products benefit from low power consumption both in standby mode and in operation, their design is conducive to recycling and the materials used are particularly friendly to the environment.

Attendance of this workshop including major Chinese TV manufacturers had a great interest in Sharp's experience and the presenter got lots of questions.

Presenter: Sharon Heymann, Environmental Expert, SEEG
