March 18, 2009 was National Tree-Planting Day in the Netherlands, and Sharp Electronics Benelux B.V. (SEB), Sharp's sales subsidiary in Houten, the Netherlands, joined representatives of the local municipality and about 30 children from a local elementary school in a tree-planting event. The participants planted 15 trees along the main street in the industrial park where SEB is located.

SEB Vice President Hayakawa, a representative from the local municipality, and children representing their school ceremonially planted the first tree.

The activity seemed to have greatly boosted the children�fs awareness of the need for environmental protection; they expressed a desire to do such projects more often.
