Sharp Holds Pre-CES Press Conference

On January 7, 2009, the day before the start of the 2009 International CES* running from January 8 to 11, Sharp held a press conference to promote its presence at America's largest electronics event.

Daisuke Koshima, CEO & Chairman of the Board, Sharp Electronics Corporation (SEC), opened the press conference with forecasts for global LCD TV demand, an overview of Sharp's business strategy centered on LCDs and solar cells, and an introduction of the state-of-the-art LCD and thin-film-solar-cell plant in Sakai (Osaka Prefecture), Japan, which is scheduled to start production in March 2010.

Michael Troetti, President of Sharp Electronics Marketing Company of America (SEMCA), talked about audio-video product trends in the Americas and Sharp's strategy in LCD TVs, Blu-ray Disc products, and home theater. Bob Scaglione, SEMCA Senior Vice President, then detailed Sharp offerings at this year's show, including Blu-ray Disc players and an AQUOS LCD TV with a built-in Blu-ray Disc player (Blu-ray AQUOS).

Most of the questions from the approximately 410 journalists and industry analysts in attendance concerned Sharp's LCD, LCD TV, and Blu-ray Disc businesses and demonstrated a high interest in Sharp and its solutions for visual entertainment. Displays of the Blu-ray AQUOS and newly designed AQUOS at the venue gave the media a firsthand look of Sharp's technologies providing unprecedentedly amazing images, sleek design, and environmental performance.
