Sales and Operating Income by Product Group
Note: Sales by product group include internal sales between segments (Consumer/Information Products and Electronic Components).

Consumer/Information Products
Sales of Audio-Visual and Communication Equipment were 311.6 billion yen, up 14.7% over the previous quarter. Sales of Blu-ray Disc recorders and mobile phones increased. Operating loss was 13.3 billion yen, an improvement of 24.4 billion yen from the previous quarter, as retailers’ inventory levels for LCD TVs returned to normal and profits improved in the domestic mobile phone business.

Sales of Health and Environmental Equipment were 57.7 billion yen, up 3.4% and operating income was 2.0 billion yen, up 82.8% over the previous quarter. Sales of high value-added products such as air purifiers equipped with Plasmacluster Ion technology and Plasmacluster Ion generators increased.

Sales of Information Equipment were 67.7 billion yen, down 13.0% from the previous quarter. Sales to corporate customers declined, reflecting a decrease in corporate capital investment. However, operating income was 2.6 billion yen, up 18.1%.

As a result, sales of these three product groups comprising Consumer/Information Products were 437.1 billion yen, up 7.8% and operating loss was 8.6 billion yen, an improvement of 25.7 billion yen from the previous quarter.

Electronic Components
Sales of LCDs were 176.1 billion yen, on a par with the previous quarter. Although the supply/demand situation for large-size LCDs for TVs improved, a downturn in the market for small- and medium-size LCDs affected overall sales of LCDs. Operating loss was 14.7 billion yen, an improvement of 13.0 billion yen from the previous quarter, due mainly to an improvement in the utilization rate at the Kameyama No. 2 Plant.

Sales of Solar Cells were 34.8 billion yen, up 32.9%, and operating loss was 1.7 billion yen, an improvement of 12.9 billion yen from the previous quarter. Sales in Japan were solid, reflecting the introduction of a program to subsidize the installation of residential photovoltaic power generation systems. In addition, overseas sales increased, after a severe plunge in the previous quarter.

Sales of Other Electronic Devices were 60.2 billion yen, up 13.8% and operating loss was 2.0 billion yen, an improvement of 13.4 billion yen from the previous quarter. Sales of CCD/CMOS imagers for mobile phones increased.

As a result, sales of these three product groups comprising Electronic Components were 271.2 billion yen, up 6.3% and operating loss was 18.5 billion yen, an improvement of 39.4 billion yen from the previous quarter.
