Sharp Collaborate with Microsoft Corporation for the Development of Smartphone supporting new Communication Service

Full-scale entry into the mobile phone markets in the U.S. and Europe

Press Release

Sharp Corporation have collaborated with Microsoft Corporation (Chief Executive Officer: Steve Ballmer, Headquarters: Redmond, Washington, U.S., hereinafter ”Microsoft”) in the development of a smartphone “KIN“*1 for the U.S. and European markets. KIN supports Microsoft’s new cloud computing service with an optimized GUI (Graphic User Interface), enabling smooth interaction for social networking in mobile communication.

KIN was developed by merging Sharp’s cutting-edge technologies and expertise for mobile phone development and LCD, with Microsoft’s cloud computing service and software technology. Users can view information updated in SNS by friends and family members on the phone in real time, without the need to navigate through SNS applications. KIN provides a new communication lifestyle, with consistently simple operation for sending messages and sharing favorite photos and movies with friends. KIN will be available for the U.S. market through Verizon Wireless*2, and the mobile terminal for the European market through Vodafone*3.

In June 2008, Sharp entered the mobile phone market in China. Sharp will continue to expand its mobile phone business with full-scale entry into the U.S. and European markets
