Electricity-generating “solar windows” let light shine through

The “curtain walls” at Kameyama Plant No. 2 look like windows yet generate electricity while letting light shine through at the same time.

Next-generation photovoltaic modules challenge the perception that photovoltaic models are only for rooftops

Sharp installed newly developed, thin-film, see-through photovoltaic modules on the large “curtain walls” of Kameyama Plant No. 2. In the daytime, the modules generate electricity and let light shine through. For those inside the building, the modules do not block the view outside. Nevertheless, the modules moderately shade strong light and cut the heat of sunshine, thereby reducing the use of electricity for air conditioning. These thin-film, see-through photovoltaic modules are low-cost, next-generation silicon photovoltaic modules. As a leading company in photovoltaic power systems, Sharp will promote R&D of photovoltaic modules and, at the same time, will pioneer versatile applications that will lead to further popularization of photovoltaic power systems.
