Color rendering is determined by directing a light source at a material and observing the natural color that is seen; if the light source is close to the color of natural light, coloring rending is said to be good.
The CRI (color rendering index) is a standard used to evaluate the degree of difference in light source's color compared with that of natural light; if there is no difference between the colors of the light source and natural light, the light source is said to achieve a perfect rating of 100 according to the CRI.
The variable Ra indicates an average color rendering value, based on eight standard intermediate colors ranging from red to purple. |
