Interactive Whiteboards Boost Student Understanding

Eliminating Equipment Problems Keeps Focus on Learning

Customer Needs/Problems

NWUSS, designated a Super Science High School by the Japanese government, prioritises science, technology, and mathematics. Experiments in physics, chemistry, and biology are held in the school lab, where teachers use supplementary teaching materials created on a PC. Before the installation of Sharp's interactive whiteboards, the teachers had been using a projector to show their materials.

  • Images from the projector were often distorted.
  • Adjusting the projector took up valuable lesson time.

Why Sharp?

Sharp's interactive whiteboards have a wealth of convenient features and such high resolution that even the tiniest part of a specimen can be vividly displayed.

  • No more distorted images, thanks to the high resolution of the displays.
  • Without time-consuming projector adjustments to worry about, teachers can concentrate on getting their lesson points across clearly.
  • Key parts of on-screen images can be enlarged or reduced, and items can be dragged to different parts of the screen.
  • Teachers can use a multi-coloured touch pen to write explanations or symbols directly on the images and to circle or underline main points. This livens up the lessons and dramatically improves student understanding.
  • On-screen notations can be saved for future display.
  • The interactive whiteboards can be hooked up to devices such as document cameras to provide a close-up look at various specimens.

Looking Ahead

The teachers at NWUSS plan to make the most of Sharp's interactive whiteboards to create more meaningful lessons. They also hope to boost their students' interest in science by using the whiteboards to display things not visible to the naked eye, such as DNA and the world of molecular biology.
