Groundbreaking ceremony for the Manufacturing Complex for the 21st Century

Sharp held the groundbreaking ceremony for its Manufacturing Complex for the 21st Century in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture. In addition to being a parallel operation of the most leading-edge LCD panel plant in the world, as well as a photovoltaic plant, the complex, taking advantage of the lateral development of thin-film technology, aims to develop into a major production area, attracting related infrastructure facilities as well as plants of component and device makers to the same premises. The photovoltaic plant has the capacity of 1,000 MW of thin-film solar cells production per year and operation is expected to begin at the same time as the LCD panel plant.
